Ticket Types

Single tickets can be purchased with cash on the bus, in an app (Brakar Billett, Vy, or Entur), from the Customer Service Centre in Drammen or the Mix kiosk in Hønefoss. The validity of the single ticket is determined by the number of zones the journey covers.

We recommend purchasing the single ticket using an app, as you will not be charged the extra onboard fee of 20 NOK. Children and senior citizens do not pay the onboard extra fee.

The onboard extra fee is a measure to make public transportation more punctual, as ticket sales on board take a long time. Therefore, it is important that as many people as possible buy their tickets in advance.

In the Buskerudbyen (which includes the municipalities of Lier, Drammen, Øvre Eiker, and Kongsberg), single tickets are sold as city tickets at a lower price.

The reduced price in Buskerudbyen is funded through additional reward funds, which were approved by the government in the fall of 2019.

The city ticket is only available as a single ticket and can be purchased through the app, on board from the driver or from the Customer Service Centre in Drammen. You do not need to select the city ticket yourself; the price is automatically set when purchasing a single ticket for one zone.

The city ticket cannot be combined with a supplementary ticket.

As with the purchase of a single ticket, there will also be an onboard extra fee of 20 NOK when buying a ticket with cash from the driver. Therefore, we recommend buying the ticket through the app in advance. Children and senior citizens do not pay the onboard extra fee.

Children under 6 years old always travel for free with Brakar. The child ticket is valid from 6 years old up to the age of 18. If the child travels frequently, we recommend purchasing the youth ticket, which is valid for either 30 days or 365 days.

On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, Brakar offers a family discount. You can bring up to four children under 18 years old for free on the bus with you. To use the family discount, you must have a valid adult, senior, or season ticket, and be over 18 years old (student tickets and youth tickets do not apply).

The day pass is valid for 24 hours, and the price is calculated based on the price of three single tickets in the same number of zones that you purchase for.

A season ticket is valid for 7, 30, or 365 days from the time it was first validated. The season ticket is non-personal and entitles the holder to an unlimited number of journeys on the paid route.

The youth ticket is a 30- or 365-day ticket that can be used from the age of 6 to the age of 20. The ticket can be purchased through the app or loaded onto a travel card, and it is valid on all Brakar routes (except for route 200 outside of Buskerud) and on local trains within Buskerud.

The student ticket provides a 40% discount on the 7- and 30-day season ticket. You can use the student discount if you are under 30 years old and:

  • Are a full-time student at a high school, university, college, academy, or equivalent educational institution eligible for financial support through Lånekassen (the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund). Norwegian students studying abroad are also eligible for the student discount.
  • Are a full-time apprentice based on the definition in Chapter 4 of the Education Act.
  • Are a full-time student at a folk high school (folkehøgskole).

If you are a student under 20, we recommend purchasing a youth ticket.

A transfer refers to changing buses for a further journey within the validity of the ticket. The validity depends on the travel distance and is calculated as follows: 45 minutes + 30 minutes per zone paid for. All single tickets are valid for transfers. A return trip is also considered a transfer.

Transfers within the same zone are free, while for journeys spanning multiple zones, an additional fee must be paid. The additional fee is the price of the entire new journey minus the boarding zone.

A journey involving a bus change is normally paid for up to the destination at the first boarding. On the next bus, the traveler must inform the driver about the transfer and show the ticket. This should also be done when using a travel card.

If you have a season ticket on the train (with Vy), you will receive a 38% discount on a season ticket with Brakar. The discounted ticket can be purchased from our ticket outlet, or in the Vy and Entur apps. The bus ticket is valid in all zones, except for routes 169 and 200.

Groups can use the regular public transport services. If the group is so large that it exceeds the capacity of the regular service, a separate charter bus must be booked.

Feel free to get in touch with us on 177 or email kundesenter@brakar.no for information about capacity on regular departures. Pay special attention to this in areas outside of the city. On Sundays and public holidays, it’s also advisable to plan ahead since there are often fewer departures.

Children and staff from day cares, primary schools and after-school programs (grades 1 to 10) traveling together can travel for free between 09:00 and 14:00 on weekdays. The travelers must have a travel certificate from Brakar.

You can purchase a travel card and load money onto it, which you can then use to pay on the bus. Travel funds are bought with value increments of a 100 NOK (minimum of 100 NOK), and payment for the journey is deducted from the balance each time the ticket is used.

Payment with travel funds is considered a pre-purchased ticket, and you avoid the onboard extra fee of 20 NOK. The cardholder can pay for multiple travelers with the same travel card, as long as they are traveling on the same route.

Travel cards can be topped up with cash on the bus (except for city buses in Drammen), at the customer service centre in Drammen, or at the Mix Sentrum Stop in Hønefoss.

We recommend registering your travel card. This way, we can assist you with a refund if you lose the card. If you haven’t registered the card, you’ll have to purchase a new one yourself.

If you lose your travel card, you can report it here.
