The total number of trips registered by Brakar in 2022 was 11.4 million, compared to 12.6 million before the pandemic in 2019. This also represents an increase of 24 percent from 2021. The number of trips is approaching “normal” levels, with 98 percent of the traffic back during the last three months of the previous year.

“We are pleased with the results from last year. Although we are still slightly behind where we should be, in 2022, we ended up 6.6 percent above the budget, and we expect to return to 2019 levels within the next two years,” says CEO Terje Sundfjord of Brakar.

Decline in All Areas

On an annual basis, there is a decrease in the number of trips in all areas compared to 2019:

  • Drammen and Lier: – 7.8 %
  • Øvre Eiker and Midtfylket: -11.4 %
  • Kongsberg and Numedal: -9 %
  • Hallingdal: +0.3 %
  • Ringerike and Hole: -7.9 %

The pandemic affected the number of bus trips in the first half of the year, but from August onwards, the traffic picked up (change in the period from October to December):

  • Drammen and Lier: -5.9 %
  • Øvre Eiker and Midtfylket: -1.5 %
  • Kongsberg and Numedal: +5.3
  • Hallingdal: -5.9%
  • Ringerike and Hole: -2.2%

Buskerudbyen

Buskerudbyen, which includes Drammen, Lier, Øvre Eiker, and Kongsberg, has a combined decrease of 8.5 percent compared to 2019, but during the autumn, 98 percent of customers have returned to public transportation.

Significant Increase on Night Buses

In May 2022, Brakar reintroduced the night bus service in Drammen, and it was evidently missed by the public. Additionally, a new night bus route to Fjell was introduced in 2022. Over the eight months since May, 11,591 trips were registered, representing a substantial 40 percent growth compared to 2019.

Number of Ferry Trips

Brakar registered approximately 223,000 trips on the ferry route between Svelvik and Verket in 2022. This is about 12,000 more than in 2021 and about 3,000 more than in 2019. In the peak pandemic year, the number of trips dropped to around 100,000. 100 000.
