About the FAIRTIQ Pilot
Brakar is currently testing distance-based ticketing through the FAIRTIQ app in Drammen, Lier, and Øvre Eiker, as well as on Line 100 and Line 101 towards Vikersund, and Line 169 between Lierbyen and Oslo. The system removes the need to navigate zones or ticket types. Passengers simply check in when boarding and check out at the end of their journey. The FAIRTIQ app then automatically calculates the correct fare based on the distance traveled. Read more about the pilot here.
Earn Discounts the More You Travel
Starting 17 August, Brakar is introducing FAIRTIQ Bonus—an automatic discount scheme rewarding frequent travelers.
The discount accumulates over a calendar month at the following rates:
- 5% discount after 3 travel days
- 10% discount after 7 travel days
- 15% discount after 11 travel days and for the remainder of the month
The bonus activates automatically, so customers do not need to do anything to receive the discount.
Predictability with a new monthly price cap
Additionally, an automatic monthly price cap of NOK 1,400 (NOK 700 for children and seniors) is being introduced. This ensures passengers never pay more than this limit, no matter how much they travel. Once this amount is reached within a calendar month, any remaining journeys are free of charge.
"We know that many people travel differently now than before. More people are combining working from home with days in the office, so traditional period tickets don't necessarily fit as well anymore.
With payment based on distance, a bonus discount, and a price cap, customers get a solution that is both flexible and predictable. You pay for the journey you actually make, while being rewarded when you travel frequently," says Terje Sundfjord, Head of section Brakar.
Important insights for future ticketing solutions
We've also updated our fare calculation. While boarding fares have changed, the distance-based price remains the same, so you continue to pay according to how far you travel.
We wants more people to join the pilot project and share their experiences. User feedback will provide valuable insights for developing future ticket and pricing solutions for public transport in Buskerud. Anyone wishing to participate can download the FAIRTIQ app from the App Store or Google Play and register as a test user.
This pilot demonstrates how digital ticketing can accommodate increasingly flexible travel patterns. By combining distance-based fares with automated discounts and fare capping, Brakar can test a model that makes public transport simple for passengers while generating valuable insights for future fare strategies,” says Antoine Belaieff, New Markets Lead at FAIRTIQ.
