School transport in primary school

School transport in primary school (grades 1-10) involves daily transport between home and school, to the school's normal start and end times. As a general rule, it is Brakar who decides whether pupils in primary school are granted free school transport. As a general rule, school transport to and from after-school/homework assistance is not included in free school transport.

Who can get a free school bus

  • Pupils in grade 1 who live more than 2 kilometers from the school
  • Pupils in grades 2–10 who live more than 4 kilometers from the school
  • Pupils who have a particularly dangerous or difficult route to school
  • Pupils with special needs documented with a doctor's certificate/expert opinion

How to apply for school transport

Parents and guardians do not apply for school transport themselves, it is the schools that apply on behalf of the pupils.

You can get information about means of transport at the school. School transport is mainly done by public transport. The student is assigned a school card that can be used on the bus.

How to find the timetables

  1. Go to the travel planner on the front page
  2. Search from your own address to the school's address to find the best travel proposal
  3. Remember to enter the correct date, as times may vary from day to day

School transport by taxi

In areas without public transport, or where the pupil has special needs, transport to school will be carried out by taxi, either from a suitable meeting place to the nearest bus stop, or directly to the school.

Carry out the transport yourself

Guardians can apply to carry out the transport themselves if the pupil cannot use public transport. Applications must be submitted and approved in advance. Information on transport allowance and application form .

Possibility of appeal

You can appeal the decision on school transport within three weeks of receiving notification of the decision. The complaint is addressed to the State Administrator in Oslo and Viken if it concerns students in primary school, or the Complaints Board for Viken county municipality if it concerns students in upper secondary school.
